Pivot Arm Awning Melbourne
A drop arm (or pivot arm) awning is an externally fitted retractable blind typically made of canvas, acrylic or mesh. They pivot to 90 degrees or more, and extend away from the opening they are sheltering. The Arm Length come in 4 options, 750mm/1000mm/1250mm or 1500mm, this means whichever arm is selected that’s how far out it will stick out half way, this also means the arm determines how far down the awning can go at its full lowest flat position which is double the arm length, eg a 1000mm arm would go down 2m.
Drop arm awnings also know as pivot arm awnings are a great option for controlling light, privacy and blocking heat from entering your home. Alfresco blinds offers 3 ranges, traditional drop arm with traditional hood or new solto drop arm with its enclosed hood and modernised front rail, also we offer a variant series which has the flexiblity to control the angle of your awning by sliding the arms along the wall tracks
What Are the Pros and Cons of Drop Arm Awnings
Pros:
- They project away from the opening. This allows greater airflow behind the awning and can minimise heat build-up on the fabric.
- Fantastic option for keeping your house cool as sun can’t seep through the thick fabric.
- Great for privacy.
- Architects love specifying these on new townhouses as ASD or OSD.
- Can Be used as a half roof shade like a folding arm awning in some sense
- Commercial shopfront stores and restaurants use drop arm awnings for decoration and advertising and as adjustable shading devices.
Cons:
- Typically only suited to second story or outward opening windows
- Can be dangerous on narrow side paths as they project out
- Allow a lot of light creepage from sides as not close to window
- Often operated manually, however they do have the option to be motorised for your convenience.
- Predominantly used for shade protection rather than weather protection.
